Akuapem South Assembly elects Presiding Member

Nsawam (E/R), April 6, GNA - Mr William Neequaye, Assembly member for Zabu Zongo Amoakrom Electoral Area in the Akuapem South Municipality, on Tuesday elected a Presiding Member for the Assembly after four rounds of voting.

Mr Neequaye, who is an Electrical and Mining Engineer, polled 53 votes to beat his contestant, Mr Isaac Buabeng, a teacher of Bowkrom Electoral Area, who had 24 votes.

Mrs Justice Jennifer Ahmed of the Nsawam Circuit Court swore Mr Neequaye into office.

In a speech, the Presiding Member said that he would ensure that all ongoing developmental projects in the Municipality were completed before new ones were started in the 53 electoral areas. Mr Neequaye called on the assembly members to be united and do away with political differences and tribalism to enable the Assembly speed up projects in the area. He said it was time political parties assisted communities to develop through communal labour and self-help contributions before calling on the Government for support. Mr Omar Amadu Dabou, the Akuapem South Municipal Coordinating Director, called on assembly members to support the newly elected Presiding Member.

He said in unity, peace and tranquility, the Presiding Member could diligently steer the affairs of the Assembly so as to undertake development projects in the 53 electoral areas. Mr William Lettu, Akuapem South Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, who presided over the election, congratulated the assembly members for the peaceful manner they conducted themselves during the election.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ben Atadana (Retired), the newly elected Chairman for Security and Justice Committee of the Assembly also appealed to the assembly members to let peace and stability prevail so as to continue with developmental projects in their communities. 6 April 11
