My Birthday Will Be Complete If Black Stars Beat England – Nana Akufo Addo

Flagbearer of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who celebrates his 67th birthday today, Tuesday, March 29, has opined that the celebration of his birthday will be complete if the Black Stars of Ghana win their historic friendly match against England.

According to him, today is a great day for the Black Stars and in the history of Ghana football because "we are playing England for the first time".

He expressed his happiness that his birthday coincides with the Black Star historic football match against England and called on all Ghanaians to join him in prayers for the Black Stars so they bring victory to Ghana.

“It is a nice twist of fate that my birthday coincides with Ghana’s historic match against England so I am going to pray hard for them and wish them luck...Let us all pray for them so they emerge victorious. That will be joyous and I will be happy too,” he said

He said it is unfortunate that most of the senior players of England will not be playing, adding that it would have been more fun if some of these renowned English players featured in the match and witnessed the fall of their great team.

“It hurts so much that most of the senior players of England will not be playing. It would have been good if we were meeting them squarely so that they will not offer any excuse when we beat them. It hurts that they are going to use the fact that they did not have their players like Rooney, John Terry, Ashley Cole, and Lampard in the squad that played with us when we scored against them,” he noted.

As to how he was going to celebrate his birthday, Nana Addo said since his birthday fall on a normal working day, not much activity has been planned for the day apart from attending Church service at Christ the King Cathedral and later in the day, host some of his friends in the house.

He expressed his gratitude to God for giving him an opportunity to live to see this day. According to him, a lot has happened in his life but he is always grateful to God for lifting him high and giving him the strength to carry on and be a good role model to the youth.

To him, it is just by divine selection that he is still healthy and strong at the age of 67, adding that “he continually prays to God for a good heart and wisdom, stressing that as a leader, he will always need a good and strong heart to give the right direction to my followers”.

He added that his faith in God remains resolute knowing that he (God) is the Omniscient one and believes that the NPP will be victorious in 2012.
