Global Youth Alliance Launched In Accra

Accra,(Greater Accra Region) 29, Sept. Global Youth Alliance - Ghana (GYA), a non- governmental body which offers a common platform for national and international youth groups to address issues and problems confronting the youth, was today launched in Accra. In a press briefing to highlight its programmes and activities, the chancellor of GYA, Ms Esinam Klaye said the group is a member of Global Youth Alliance which is an international network of youth organisations. Its broad aim is to at bring all splinter groups working with the youth to complement each other for the common goal of addressing issues like drug addiction, child labour and child abuse, among others. She said the network was formed as a result of the second State of the World forum convened in 1996 by president Mikhail Gorbachev of the former Soviet Union and other world leaders during which it was decided that the youth should come together as a formidable resource for increased cooperation. The network which has "Less talk, more work" as its motto has five major areas of concern. These are education, the environment, economic development, human rights and leadership in the 21st century. "It is a (major) policy of GYA that a holistic approach must be given to every matter that will have repercussion for generation to come," Ms Klaye said. GYA - Ghana hopes to organise a national youth forum in November during which stakeholders will try to find common strategies to address issues facing the youth. .
