Employers should promote the well-being of workers

Tarkwa, March.10, GNA-Ghanaian employers and

managers have been urged to take the well-being of workers

seriously by providing a safe work environment and training for

future challenges. "Without a properly designed well-being programme, many

employees will not give off their best as an unsafe work

environment would result in high rates of occupational hazards

and accidents and premature retirement due to injury and

unprepared pension programmes". Mrs Elisabeth Kumalo, Vice President, Region Africa,

Sandvik Mining and Construction Ghana Limited, said these at

the launch of the wellness policy of the company at Tarkwa on

Wednesday. She said the focus of the policy is to develop a healthy,

skilled and productive workforce and provide information on

rights and responsibilities of employees and the company. She explained that as part of the policy, workers of the

company and their spouses exposed to legal education, Breast

cancer screening, Voluntary Counselling and Testing for AIDS

and HIV and financial opportunities. She urged all employees to take their wellbeing seriously

and take proactive steps to improve their lives which would

improve their productivity. Mr. James Oosthuizen, Managing Director of Sandvik

Ghana, said an audit will be conducted to ascertain the effect

and impact of the wellbeing programme. He commended workers of the company for their

dedication to duty and urged them to live up to expectation.
