TEWU urges members to remain calm

Accra, March 9, GNA - The Teacher and Educational Workers' Union (TEWU), on Wednesday assured its members in the Ghana Education Service (GES) that it was collaborating with other stakeholders to resolve the problems regarding migration of teachers onto the Single Spine Salary Structure.

"We are therefore, asking all members of the Union contemplating any industrial action over the issues to rescind their decision and wait for a peaceful resolution of the problem," it said in a statement issued in Accra. The statement was jointly signed by Ms Margaret Martey, Second National Vice Chairperson and D. Ayim Antwi, General Secretary.

It informed their members in the public universities, polytechnics and other subvented institutions that the Union was in touch with the authorities on the implementation of the SSSS and the way forward in reviewing their expired Condition of Service.

The statement said it would continue to inform the rank and file of any new development on issues relating to SSSS through the Regional Industrial Relations Officers.

It said TEWU Congress had followed with keen interest the developments in the Ghana Education Service (GES) over the migration of its employees to the Single Spine Salary Structure.

"These developments have also created panic and emotions among some of our members and their families", the statement added.

The statement said a Technical Committee comprising GES Management, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Controller and Accountant General's Department, TEWU, Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) have assessed and identified the nature and scope of the problems.
