Prostitutes, partners nabbed in action

“I started operating at Jolie Spot a year ago and charged my clients four cedis per round. So, at times, my clients could go three or four rounds and that is where I get my daily income,” these were the words of a 50-year-old prostitute (name withheld) who was nabbed together with her 47-year-old colleague (name withheld) and their clients by the Kaneshie Divisional police command when their Darkuman brothel was raided on Thursday night.

The two were busy in the act with their clients when the police went to the place upon a tip-off.

According to the 50-year-old mother of three, they were paid based on the number of rounds their clients were able to cover. Out of the total amount, GH¢2 went to the owner of the brothel.

“We sometimes make more than GH¢30 per day,” she added.

The men arrested with the night workers were a 27-year-old unemployed man, a labourer, 37, and the owner of the mini brothel.

Briefing Daily Guide after the arrest, the Kaneshie Divisional Police Commander, Michael Avadetse, indicated that the brothel was located at Darkuman near the Accra lorry station.

“There are two untidy rooms for the sexual activities: an old mattress and a bed which the ladies use for the act,” he added.

He noted that upon a tip-off, the police raided the place Thursday night and arrested two of the women together with their clients having sex.

“Some managed to escape but the two who were arrested were seriously making love and the police grabbed them together with the owner of the place.”

Chief Superintendent Avadetse said that the brothel had been operating for the past three years.

He said those arrested would be arraigned soon.

Meanwhile, another prostitute who is a mother of six told Daily Guide that they charged GH¢4 per round thus “short time”, while they also considered a discount of GH¢3 for old customers.

“I come from Akuapim Akropong. My husband died three years ago and I have to take care of all six children,” she said.

She continued that the best work she could do was to engage in prostitution since it was much better than to sell.

“I was introduced to the business by a friend months ago and ever since I engaged myself, I am able to feed my kids,” she noted.

The 46-year-old mother said she had a stockpile of condom that she gave to clients who did not have any for a fee.

Meanwhile, the owner of the brothel called “Ashawo Joint,” in a statement, noted that the ladies only paid GH¢2 for using the room.

He maintained that the ladies were sometimes able to give him GH¢2 after work.
