National Service Board says placement exercises based on qualifications

Accra, Dec. 27, GNA - The Governing Board of the Ghana National Serv= ice Scheme (GNSS) says the Scheme follows the approved Public Service procedure= s and criteria in its placement exercises at the Secretariat. This, it said, was based on relevant academic and professional records as well as competencies made available to it. This was contained in a statement issued in Accra by Mr Ambose Entsiwa= h Jnr, Board Secretary, to the Ghana News Agency on Monday in reaction to alleged recruitment of a staff at Accounts Department at the Secretariat with a fake certificate.

The Board said the Scheme since October, 2009 had had in place a team of five senior accounting officers seconded to it from the Controller and Accountant-General's Department on request.

The team, headed by a Chief Accountant and three other chartered accountants, had among other responsibilities, preparation of all payment vouchers, it said.

"At no time has this responsibility been taken over by anyone in the Internal Audit Unit as alleged," the Board said. It also added that there had been no transfer of any Internal Auditor from the Internal Audit Unit of the Scheme as alleged.
