I was a good 'wee' smoker - Kweku Baako

Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide, Malik Kwaku Baako, on Wednesday, December 22, made a very shocking revelation in the studios of PeaceFM, when he openly admitted that he used to indulge in the abuse of the psychoactive drug, ‘wee’ or marijuana in his heydays.

Like a bolt of lightning, the frank confession virtually jolted listeners and his co-panelists, Ursula Owusu and Ben Allotey Jacobs of the NPP and NDC respectively, to the bone.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Morning show, Mr. Baako said one the teething troubles he encountered in his youthful days was the addictive habit of wee smoking. According to him, he clashed with his father and his school authorities on countless occasions because of his addiction to wee.

He, however, categorical denied ever dealing in cocaine or other hard drugs.

The seasoned journalist pointed out that he is not embarrassed to publicly voice out things about his past, because his wee smoking habits are ‘well-known and documented’.

“I’ve never dealt in drugs but I have smoked ‘wee’ before. I was a very good ‘wee’ smoker but I smoked quality ones. I am not ashamed that I was once a (wee) smoker, it is well-known and documented...I always had problems over this in the house with my father and in school, it is well known. I will be lying if I sit here and tell you I have never smoked ‘wee’, it will be a dishonest assertion to make but the most important thing is, it was in the past,” he added.

The one-time GJA Journalist of the Year, who was commenting on the WikiLeaks cable reports vis-à-vis threats by the former Deputy Director of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), Ben Ndego to expose him, dared him to go ahead with his threat, if even there is anything else left to expose about him (Baako).

He cuttingly urged Mr. Ndego to stop ‘the holier than thou attitude’ he has adopted and come out with his exposure.

“Let me tell Ndego something, that holier than thou attitude he has adopted will not help, I want him to come out with that exposure. I have never dealt in drugs so there is nothing to worry about,” he said.

The avowed government critic disclosed that there are a lot of respectable and highly distinguished personalities in the country such as Priests, Bankers, Politicians, etc, who used to be his wee smoking partners.
