60th anniversary celebration of SECKO launched

Inchaban (W/R), Dec. 11, GNA - Madam Betty Busumtwi-Sam, Deputy Western Regional Minister, on Saturday, called on Head of Schools and stakeholders to cooperate with government to ensure that the huge investment made in education does not go to waste. She was speaking at the launch of the 60th anniversary celebration of the Sekondi College (SECKO) at Inchaban. The one-year celebration is under the theme "Discipline: An Essential Tool for Achieving Education Success". Madam Busumtwi-Sam, who was the Guest of Honour, said stakeholders in education, including old students, could play important roles for the ultimate success of the country's education programme. She said the government is aware that, a vigorous education sector could go a long way to fight against under-development, poverty, illiteracy and disease.

Madam Busumtwi-Sam said education is a major tool in national development and with the collaboration of all stakeholders it would propel the country to economic growth and prosperity. She said it is the commitment of the government to ensure that the youth are development oriented but that the government cannot do this alone. Mr Kwabena Appiah-Pinkrah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Akrofuom, said students cannot excel academically without discipline and that rules and regulations of schools are in the best interest of students. Mr Appiah-Pinkrah, an old student of the school, said indiscipline could impact negatively on the socio-economic development and political growth of the country if it is not checked. He said efforts of government, education authorities and other stakeholders to check indiscipline in schools are aimed at ensuring quality education in the country. Captain Georgina Bus-Kwofie, also an old student of the school launched the anniversary celebration. 11 Dec. 10
