Two killed in separate accidents in Eastern Region

Koforidua, Dec 11, GNA- Two persons lost their lives in separate accidents in the Eastern Region at the weekend. Klove Kodzeastan, driving an Opel salon car towards Kumasi and Mohamed Abdul, who was driving a timber truck from Begoro, were both trapped in their mangled vehicles following the accidents. Superintendent James Sarfo Peprah, the Eastern Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), told the GNA that the accidents occurred within 24 hours at Adjeikrom near Begoro and Osiem. He said the driver of the Opel salon car AS1272-V was going towards Kumasi from Tema and on reaching Osiem veered from his lane and collided with a DAF petrol tanker GS8043-10. Superintendent Peprah said the deceased was rescued from his damaged vehicle and was rushed to the Tafo Government Hospital but died shortly on arrival.

In the case of Mohamed Abdul, the MTTU commander said he was driving a diesel timber truck GR3737A belonging to a wood processing company loaded with three big timber logs from Begoro to Bunso. On reaching Adjeikrom, whiles descending a hill on a curvy area, he lost control of the vehicle and in the process veered from the road and hit the embankment of the hill at the near side resulting in the accident. With the assistance of the police and personnel of the Ghana Fire Service he was removed from the wreckage. Both bodies have been deposited at the Tafo Government Hospital awaiting autopsy.
