President Mills leaves for Emergency Summit

Accra, Dec. 7, GNA - President John Evans Atta Mills left Accra Tuesday morning for Abuja-Nigeria, where he would join other ECOWAS Heads of State for an emergency summit on the political situation in La Cote d'ivoire. Mr Koku Anyidoho, Presidential Spokesperson and Press Secretary, told journalists at the Kotoka International Airport that President Mills and his colleagues, were expected to come up with suggestions and decisions that would ensure stability in governance within Cote d'ivoire.

Following a disputed Presidential election, incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo was sworn-in for a third term in office at the Presidential Palace last Friday, shortly after which Mr Alassane Oauttara, Mr Gbagbo's main opponent, was also sworn-in at an Abidjan hotel where he is currently based. This has resulted in an unfolding political crisis in that neighbouring country.

At the airport to see off President Mills was the Vice President, John Dramani Mahama, Ministers of State and senior military and police personnel.
