NUGS Suspends Two National Officers

The Central Committee of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) which is the second highest decision-making body in the Union last Saturday suspended two of the Union’s national officers for various offences.
The two officers are the General Secretary, Patrick Adonoo and Ms. Benedicta Lasi, the International Relations Secretary.
According to a press release signed by the NUGS president, Anthony Abotsi Afriyie, Patrick Adonoo addressed a Cuban-Embassy solidarity campaign without the knowledge of the Union and brought the name of the Union into disrepute by lying about the union’s stance during the UTAG strike.
The International Relations Secretary, Benedicta Lasi is also accused of having designed and used an illegal letterhead of the union and together with the General Secretary issued a press statement in respect to some International issues without the knowledge of the Union.
The press release states that until further correspondence from the union with respect to this matter, any body who deals with Mr. Patrick Adonoo and Ms. Benedicta Lasi in the name of the Union does so at his own peril and NUGS would not be held accountable in any such situation.
Meanwhile the two embattled officers; Patrick Adonoo and Benedicta Lasi both denied the allegations being leveled against them in an interview with focus news.
They accuse the NUGS president of having a diabolic agenda. But the president who also spoke to focus fm in that interview maintains that the two are to step aside as national officers until the judicial committee of the Union concludes its investigations.
