Committee of Inquiry on shooting incidents present report

Sekondi, Nov. 26, GNA - A three-member Committee of Inquiry set up b= y the Western Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to investigate two shooti= ng incidents at Sefwi Wiawso on December 11 last year, on Thursday presented=

its report to Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, the Regional Minister. Lawyer Sagary Nokoe, the Chairman of the Committee, said it (Committ= ee) was originally set up to investigate the shooting incident that resulted in the death of one Kofi Nkrumah outside the palace of the Omanhene of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area. He said the Committee was tasked to submit its report in two weeks because it became necessary to investigate as well an earlier shooting incident, which caused the death of Linda Osei, an Internal Revenue Servi= ce (IRS) worker. Clara Owusu, another worker of the IRS and others were also wounded during the first incident, Lawyer Nokoe said. He said the Committee finished its public sitting on March 11th this=

year and thoroughly prepared the report. Lawyer Nokoe said the report should be a wake-up call to local government authorities and the Police to comply with the law. He said the deaths could have been avoided and hoped the report woul= d help to avert similar occurrences in future. Mr Aidoo commended the Committee for conducting the investigation an= d for completing the task assigned to it. He said copies of the report would be sent to the Minister of the Interior, Inspector-General of Police and the President of the land.
