Government will ensure perpetual peace and unity-Veep

Kumasi, Nov 1, GNA - Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Monday gave the assurance that Government would institute and explore avenues that would ensure sustainable peace and unity in the country. "As a government we will explore all the possible ways that would bring peace, unity and pave way for our Better Ghana agenda to triumph." Vice President Mahama gave this assurance when he paid a courtesy call on Otumfuo Osei Tutu, King of the Ashanti Kingdom, during a three-day official visit to Kumasi and Tamale.

The Otumfuo and Vice President Mahama later engaged in a closed-door discussion which bordered on peace and unity in the country, especially those concerning chieftaincy, land litigations and political disagreements.

The Vice President commended Otumfuo for his role in the Dagbon crises and expressed the hope that he would continue to play a leading role in the achievement of peace in other areas.

Otumfuo Osei-Tutu said although he was the King of Ashantis, he was also happy to be playing roles that impacted positively on the lives of Ghanaians in other parts of the country.

He advised against politicizing chieftaincy and other social institutions, as that had the potential of creating anarchy and chaos in future.

The Vice President had earlier joined the family of Mr Oworidu Appiah, a renowned Tamale-based lawyer for a memorial service in Tamale for the late Lawyer Appiah and the family of Mr Kwame Peprah, a former Minister of Finance and Economic Planning for the funeral of his mother, Anna Boakye at Ntonsu in the Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region.
