Press Release By Movement For Nana Konadu 2012

NANA KONADU PLEASE SAVE THE NDC

The movement for NANA KONADU AGYEMAN-RAWLINGS 2012 Presidency wants to reiterate its stance regarding our clarion call on the former First Lady of Ghana to save the NDC by coming out to bear the NDC flag towards the 2012 general elections. We strongly believe that she holds the key to an NDC victory in 2012 and will offer Ghana her first female President in history. It is also time for the NDC to be reclaimed by its real adherents - those who truly believe in its virtues and values. Mrs. Rawlings represents in our view and the view of many other groups, individuals and organizations, an embodiment of these NDC values far better than anybody else in the NDC today.

Prof. Mills has given the control of our party to different people who went to sleep during eight years of opposition. They have taken the NDC party away from the values that form its bedrock. We were here when Prof. Mills went abroad to teach in a foreign university after losing an election. John Mahama concentrated on AU work at the time. Totobi Kwakyi was ‘ill’ for eight years and only got well one year ago. Kwamena Ahwoi went into ‘retirement’ from politics whiles Kwesi Ahwoi went to work abroad.
Whiles all these people were at it, only one man and one woman stood tall and courageously defended the core values and principles of this NDC movement. Together with his wife, President Rawlings showed endurance and adaptive vitality during eight years in opposition to sustain the grass roots and keep the people’s hopes alive.
Two years in government, President Mills is allowing the grass roots of our party to wither away. The source of the political fountain, which is the people is been cut off by President Mills. And that is why the foot soldiers are calling on Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings to rise to the occasion as her endurance and inspiration is badly needed and her star is beckoning. We recognize there is a due process to becoming a flag bearer for the NDC but as we have observed recently, President Mills who is the leader of the party has violated this due procedure by announcing his intended candidature for 2012. It is also no secret that Vice President John Mahama has taken undue advantage of his position to start campaigning around the country for President. Whiles at the same, some other people are touting Kwesi Ahwoi as a contender. We in the movement for NANA KONADU 2012 do not therefore see any violation in carrying on our advocacy, therefore, we shall continue to move this agenda until the former first lady takes up the challenge we’re throwing to her.
We are fully committed to a brighter political future of the NDC. In line with this, we have not hidden our activities to promote Mrs. Rawlings as the next Presidential candidate for the NDC 2012. We first made a statement on June 4 2010 in Tamale when we outdoored our first banners. Just today, we again deployed posters nationwide depicting the call by foot soldiers for NANA KONADU to bring hope to the NDC and to Ghana in 2012. We have also depicted on our posters ample examples of great female Presidents around the world. This is the time for Ghana to move to a new phase in its democratic development by electing a female President.
We have not heard a response to our call from the former First Lady. We have made frantic efforts to meet her and to convince her. But there are forces that are preventing us from reaching her. We only hope she hears us as we talk in the news. She must heed to the call of the foot soldiers. We call on former President Rawlings to inspire her and encourage her to hear the call of us the foot soldiers. We want to call also on all individuals, groups and organizations who agree with us to stand up and speak for a new movement. They must join us to move in our original direction by supporting this movement. We hope Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings will not disappoint the teaming masses of our party who are yearning to see her restore hope.
