Winneba University to produce textbooks

Winneba, Oct.18, GNA - The University of Education, Winneba, is in collaboration with Chicago State University, University of Cape Coast and the Ghana Education Service to produce textbooks from pre-school up to basic level three.

The Vice-chancellor, Prof. Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, said this in his address at the 15th congregation of the University of Education, Winneba on Saturday during which 8,245 people were awarded degrees, diplomas and certificates.

Some 1,143 Distance Education students from the southern sector also graduated.

Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw said the university's national and international collaborative efforts were yielding good results.

He said the Centre for Continuing Education was running training workshops for technical teachers and had started running postgraduate diploma programmes in Teaching and Learning in higher Education.

The programme is designed to improve the quality of teaching and learning in universities by providing new teaching staff with knowledge, understanding and skill in teaching, management and evaluation of large classes.

The Programme can be assessed by both teachers in public and private higher institution of learning, he said.

The Chancellor of the UEW, Alhaji Asoma Banda, appealed to the graduates to be worthy ambassadors of the University of Education, Winneba.

"As you remain faithful to your work, you will contribute to the University's course and thereby assist the nation in meeting the second and third targets of the Millennium Development Goals."

Alhaji Banda urged the University community, faculty, staff and management to continue to work efficiently and effectively in the true spirit of collaboration, consultation and commitment in teaching, research and extension work.
