Government asked to assist in the burial of Lower-Dixcove Chief

Dixcove, Oct. 17, GNA - Government has been asked to help facilitate the burial of the late Nana Badu Bonsu, the 15th Paramount Omanhene of Lower-Dixcove in the Western Region.

Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, Omanhene of Lower-Dixcove, who made the call, said Nana Bonsu was beheaded and the head taken away by the Dutch Government in 1838.

Nana Agyeman in an interview with GNA at his Palace at Dixcove said through vigorous efforts the severed head of the late chief was returned to Ghana in 2009 and had since been kept at a "saver place".

Nana Agyeman asked Government to assist in organising a befitting burial for the late chief to put the case to rest.

He also suggested to Government to build a mausoleum to preserve the head of the chief to serve as a tourist attraction.

Nana Agyeman appealed to Government to ensure that the Dutch authorities pay compensation to the chiefs and people of the area, for killing their chief.
