Juju man kills girl

A spiritualist, on Tuesday night, knocked down four teenage girls with his Land Rover car with registration number GT 5193-10 at a spot close to the Volta Regional Police Headquarters at Ho, killing one of them instantly.

Togbe Adesi II, a Ho-based fetish priest, killed Enyonam Murray, 15, and wounded three others who are currently on admission at the Volta Regional Hospital.

The popular juju man, according to police sources, however escaped from the scene as soon as the incident occurred. A live royal African python known in Ewe as Togbi Dabi was however found inside the spare tyre compartment of the vehicle, with an egg lying by it.

It was however not immediately known what the snake was concealed there for and whether the egg was laid by the python or it was only meant to be used to feed it.

The snake was still in the vehicle which was parked at the police headquarters as at press time yesterday.

Some irate youth of the town earlier stormed the police station to kill the snake but were prevented by the police from doing so.

Attempts by the police to get the juju man to give his caution statement have proved futile as he was nowhere to be found at the time of filing this story.

The police, DAILY GUIDE gathered, are making efforts to arrest him.

Wonder Murray, brother of the dead girl, told DAILY GUIDE that his sister enrolled for a dressmaking apprenticeship under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP).

She was returning from the workshop during a heavy rain when the sad incident occurred.

According to him, Enyonam did not return at the usual closing time so when their dad, the Ho Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) returned from work, they were preparing to locate the girl whose mother died five years ago, when someone came to the house to inform them of the sad incident.

The other victims in critical condition are Micaul Agbalekpor, Mawunyo Bosu and Mary Anagbo who are all part of the NYEP programme.

ASP Frederick Lumor, Volta Regional Commander of MTTU, who confirmed the accident, told DAILY GUIDE that his outfit suspected the juju man to be speeding “because the point of impact and the resultant position were about 50 metres apart.”

This, he said, meant that because the man was speeding, he could not stop closer to the spot of the incident.

The juju man, the police said, was also suspected to be drunk but before the police could get him tested for alcohol, he had run from the scene and had since not been seen.

A source close to the juju man however told DAILY GUIDE that the man was preparing to ‘storm’ the police headquarters with some top-notch lawyers.
