President's nominee gets hundred percent endorsement

Bunkprugu, (N/R), Sept. 14, GNA - The Presidents nominee for the post of District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Bunkprugu/Yunyoo district, was on Monday overwhelmingly endorsed by the assembly members. Mr Philip Laari, the nominee, who is a retired Northern Regional Commander of the Ghana Prisons Service, polled all the 37 votes, representing 100 percent of the assembly members present. Mr Laari's nomination and subsequent confirmation as DCE became necessary after the removal from office of Hajai Maliga Mavis Bawa, by the President some few months ago.

The elections were conducted by the electoral commission, under the supervision of Mr Sylvester Kanyi, the Northern Regional Electoral Officer.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Laari commended the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to run an open door administration that would welcome advice and suggestions to help move the district forward in its development.

He said, the district had been noted for conflicts involving land and chieftaincy disputes and employed the people to put aside the conflicts of the past and unite to find solutions to the problems facing them in the areas of education, health and poverty reduction. Mr Laari said to champion peace and unity, especially among the youth, he would use sports to harness their energies for the development of the district.

Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba, Northern Regional Minister urged the assembly members, chiefs and the people to cooperate with the new DCE and give him their maximum support to enable him to deliver. He reminded them that the conflicts in the area was impeding their development and urged them to put the past behind and unite as one people to address the development challenges facing them.
