China holds workshop on investment in Africa

Accra, Sept. 8, GNA - A sensitization workshop on China's investment infrastructure to promote Chinese projects in Africa was held in Accra on Tuesday.

The workshop, which brought together participants from Ghana, South Africa, Mali, Liberia, Uganda and Sierra Leone, served as a platform to exchange views to facilitate deeper understanding of China's investment infrastructure in Africa and discuss how China could improve upon development projects on the continent.

Dr. Edward Brown, Director, Policy Advisory Services of the African Centre for Economic Transformation (ACET), said the workshop would prepare the minds of African participants towards this year's Beijing Summit scheduled for September 29.

He indicated that African countries needed to build strong multi-lateral strategies to dialogue with China to enhance good business development.

Dr Brown said China was ready to provide support and sustain development projects in Africa.

He urged African countries to articulate strong regional cooperation with China to promote African priorities.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Dr Sheila Ochugboju, Chief Communications Officer of ACET, said China had become a significant development partner to Ghana providing increasing amounts of aid compromising loans, grants and technical assistance.

The workshop was organised by Global Development Learning Network in partnership with African Centre for Economic Transformation.

ACET was incorporated as a non-profit policy and advisory institution in 2007 and has received support in consultation with stakeholders within and outside Africa, including the endorsement of some African leaders.

It is aimed at providing an integrated service of research, policy analysis, advice and institution strengthening for governance.
