Police in Sunyani nab suspected armed robbers

Sunyani (B/A), Aug. 31,GNA - Two suspected armed robbers who were sharing their booty at the Nana Bosoma Market in Sunyani have been arrested by the Police

They had allegedly robbed a woman at gun point last Friday at Berlin Top in Sunyani.

The police retrieved a locally manufactured pistol, three mobile phones and a butcher's knife from Kwaku Agyemang, popularly known as Opoku Agyemang, 27, a porter in Kumasi and Sovor, alias Kwasi Ayivor, 20, also a porter and loading boy at the central market.

They have been remanded in prison custody by a circuit court at Fiapre, near Sunyani.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani on Monday, Chief Superintendent Edward Tabiri, Brong-Ahafo Regional Crime Officer, said on that fateful day, the victim took a taxi from Sunyani old station to her home at Berlin Top around 0130 hours.

He said the victim had earlier called a friend and the watchman in the house on phone to meet her at the gate but on reaching there, the suspects attacked her and the taxi driver and at gun point ordered them to surrender all their belongings.

Chief Superintendent Tabiri said Agyemang ordered the woman to open the gate amidst threats to shoot her during which he forcibly opened the

gate and snatched a lap top from the victim's friend.

Ayivor also attacked the taxi driver and robbed him of GHC 3 after which the two suspects fled.

Chief Superintendent Tabiri expressed concern about the poor lighting system in some parts of the municipality and advised the general public to promptly report persons with questionable character to the police.
