NPP Flag bearer election takes off without any incident in W/R

Sekondi, Aug. 7, GNA - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer primaries on Saturday took off in 22 polling stations in the Western Region at 0800 hours without any incident.

Mr Steve Opoku-Mensah, Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, who told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Sekondi, said 12,071 delegates are voting in their respective constituencies in the region.

He said election materials became ready three days before the primaries and that the election was going to be smooth, calm and peaceful.

He said it was a good idea to conduct the primaries at the constituency level because there could be tension if the delegates converge at one point.

Mr Opoku-Mensah said the delegates were not likely to be influenced in any way in this arrangement of the election, which was just like the General Election.

He said it was likely that the results from all districts in the region would be received on Saturday because of lack of fax and internet facilities in the hinterland.

At 1050 hours when the GNA visited some polling stations in the Sekondi Constituency, delegates were casting their votes in an orderly manner.

Officials of the Electoral Commission are conducting the election nationwide.
