First Lady of Swaziland in Accra for cervical cancer conference

Accra, July 24, GNA - Her Royal Highness, Make Lamatsebula, First Lady of Swaziland, arrived in the country on Friday evening to attend the fourth Stop Cervical Cancer in Africa Conference in Accra.

The Conference is collaboration between Princess Nikki of Nigeria and Ghana's Ministry of Health with support from the Bill Gate Foundation as well as Mrs Naadu Mills, First Lady of Ghana.

It will be under the theme: 93Africa Unite in Action - Mobilising Political and Financial support to prevent cervical cancer". Slated July 25-27, it would attract First Ladies from Africa, Parliamentarians, and Health Ministers.

Dr Benjamin Kumbuor, Minister of Health, told journalists at the Airport when the First Lady arrived that, cervical cancer was becoming a major health issue.

He said First Ladies in Africa have decided to combine their strength in order to effectively tackle the disease.

Dr Kumbuor said Ghana had been pioneering the detection rate of cancer as well as the disease adding that the Conference was expected to be the largest. The first event was held in Nigeria.

At the Airport to meet the First Lady was Ghana's First Lady Mrs Naadu Mills.
