Government begins returning lands to owners

Accra, July 17, GNA- Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, on Friday said efforts to return lands not used for the purpose they had been acquired had began in earnest in the Greater Accra region.

He said the Ministry had handed over about 60 per cent of the land acquired from the Nungua Farm lands to the original owners.

He noted that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) had been signed with the land owners to return 50 per cent of the land acquired for the Accra Training College and 50 per cent of land acquired for Social Welfare at Madina and Ogbojo.

"The Ministry has also decided to return 50 per cent of the land acquired for the West Africa Secondary School to the original owners," he said, but indicated that the customary owners could not agree on who should represent them to sign the MOU.

He said as soon as they agreed on their leadership, the handing over process would be conducted.
