NDC Member Adds Voice To STX Korea Discussion

Many people and groups continue to add their voices to the STX Korea deal and the latest to join the discussion is Mr. John Owusu Agyeman, a member of the National Executive Committee of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). He is asking Ghanaians not to be afraid of taking loans to develop the nation, citing Ghana and other countries which have depended on various loan facilities to develop various aspects of their economy.

Mr. Agyeman, who was speaking in an interview with Focus news’ Bernard Buachi asked whether any nation had been sold for being indebted, adding that even the United States of America was so high in debt but yet is the wealthiest nation in the world.

The legal practitioner stated that those opposing this deal were not doing so out of genuine concern for the nation but rather out of political interests. Asked why the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA) was not given the deal, the NDC kingpin answered back with the question; “has GREDA been able to raise the amount of money needed for the construction of any state sponsored project in this country? He said government had not stopped GREDA from also coming forward with proposals “if they know anywhere in the world they can also go like STX, arrange for a loan , the Ghana government is ready to give a sovereign guarantee so that the loan will be given to GREDA to come and construct the buildings”.

According to Mr. John Owusu Agyeman, the country is still in deficit of about a million houses, the Koreans are in to build two Hundred thousand leaving Eight Hundred thousand houses which GREDA can pursue if they had the means. He however thinks the idea of insuring the deal as being raised by some parliamentarians is not out of order.
