MTN to use success of World Cup to penetrate deeper into Africa

Ho, July 09, GNA - MTN is to ride on the success of the 2010 World Cup in uniting Africa to reach out to more communities on the continent. "Football unites more than anything else, so we hope to capitalize on that spirit and share the good tidings of the World Cup to improve our services," Mrs Eleanor Sarpong, Senior Manager, MTN Government and Regulatory Department, said on Friday. Mrs Sarpong said this when MTN presented a set of the Company's souvenirs including vuvuzelas to the Volta Regional Coordinating Council.

She said, "We hope to keep the United Africa theme and build on it for a brighter future for the continent." "We are rolling out more services and programmes to run in the 21 African countries that we operate in, apart from their specific national programmes, and we hope they go well," Mrs Sarpong added. She said subscribers in Ghana for instance, would be enjoying significant improvement in service delivery and a lot more social services in the coming months.

"Relationships remain our core value, so we are determined to give off our best for a better relationship," Mrs Sarpong said. Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, commended MTN for helping Africa host a successful World Cup and also supporting the Black Stars to reach the Quarter Finals of the Mundial. He appealed for more support to improve football and other sporting events in the country. He urged the Company to match its services with its image. "As a leading communication industry, you need to be more visible and spread your services and social responsibilities across the country," Mr Amenowode said. 9 July 10
