Ofosu-Ampofo challenges GHS to abide by service regulations

Koforidua, July 9, GNA - Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister, on Friday challenged the Ghana Health Service (GHS), to abide strictly by their service regulations to ensure better healthcare for the people.

He said since health care delivery was paramount to the better Ghana agenda, Government was more committed to resource the health sector for efficient delivery, and therefore members of the service should be equally committed.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo was speaking at the presentation of seven pick-up vehicles to the Regional Administration of Health, to be distributed to some selected districts to facilitate immunization and vaccination programmes in the remote areas.

According to the Regional Minister, each of the vehicles cost about 21,000 dollars and would be given mainly to the newly created districts, including Akyemmansa, Upper Manya, Kwahu East and South, Fanteakwa, Birim North and Akuapem North.

He urged the district directors to ensure that the vehicles were used purposefully in the service of health care for the people in the deprived areas and not to be used as private vehicles.

Dr Erasmus Agongo, the Regional Director of Health Services, who received the keys of the vehicles on behalf of the districts, said they were donated by Global Alliance for Vaccination and Immunization, to be used by deprived districts.

He noted that although heath service in the Region was seriously constrained with vehicles and other logistics, the beneficiary districts were more deprived than others hence their selection.

Dr Agongo thanked the donors and assured the regional minister that the vehicles would be put to good use to improve quality healthcare in those areas and the region on the whole.
