Government is worried about developments in Bawku

Bawku (U/E), July 8, GNA - The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Owen Woyongo, on Wednesday said government was very worried about developments in Bawku and would do everything in its power to restore hope and confidence in the people to go about their normal social life. He said the conflict in the area was a threat to the socio-economic development of the people and there was the need to find ways of restoring lasting peace to Bawku. "The peace you are searching for is here in Bawku with you". Mr Woyongo said when he welcomed back members of the Inter-Ethnic peace committee from the Mamprusi side who withdrew from the committee. Mr. Woyongo appealed to members of the committee to embark on vigorous outreach programmes to educate the people on the effects of the conflict. He said members of the committee should be open-hearted with one another so as to convince and assure the people that they are really championing a cause so that they could win their full support and cooperation. Mr Woyongo told the members that they should let the people see in them friendship despite their ethnic differences, adding that in doing this the people would emulate their examples and live together harmoniously.
