Akufo-Addo condemns government for failing to implement SADA

Garu-Tempane (U/E), June 28, GNA - Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo, one of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates seeking to be the presidential candidate of the party, has condemned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing to implement the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) as promised in its manifesto.

Nana Akufo-Addo said this when he addressed party delegates from the 13 constituencies in the Upper East Region during a campaign tour of the region.

He said if the party regained power he would establish a Northern Development Authority with a seed capital of one billion dollars. This would be set up alongside a Northern Development Fund to help bridge the development gap between the north and the south. Nana Akufo-Addo said the NDC saw the significance of the programme and decided to adopt it and named it the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority but failed to show any political will to commit resources to implement it.

He said he was committed to the implementation of the Northern Development Authority should he become the President of Ghana in 2012.

Nana Akufo-Addo said all the pro-poor programmes including the National Health Insurance Scheme, National Youth Employment schemes and the School Feeding Programmes among others had been destroyed by the government and promised that those programmes would be restructured and expanded. He said if he is elected the presidential candidate of the party and the party comes to power, secondary education would be free and that all basic schools would benefit from the School Feeding Programmes. "Education would come without any question about money", he said. Addressing polling station delegates at separate functions, Nana Akufo-Addo told them to make a wise decision in exercising their mandate by selecting a candidate who could lead the party to victory in the 2012 election.

He assured them that when he is given the nod he would strengthen grassroots of the party with resources and logistics. Nana Akufo-Addo stressed the need for unity within the party and said it was very paramount to the victory of the party in 2012. He said one of the reasons that made the party to lose the 2000 election was divisions that were created among executive members of the Party, District Chief Executives and Members of Parliament among others. 28 June 10
