NPP Flag-Bearer Aspirants to pay additional GH¢50,000?

Accra, June 28, GNA - There are indications that New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flag-Bearer Aspirants would be asked to pay additional GH¢50,000 to fund the August 7, National Delegates' Congress, a Source at the Party Headquarters told GNA on Monday.

The Source, who spoke to GNA on condition of anonymity, explained that part of the money would be used to transport the delegates to the various polling stations to cast their votes; provide logistics and pay the allowances of Election Officers and security personnel, who would be on duty on the Election Day.

The Source noted that the NPP's Electoral Reforms had led to unanticipated large electoral budget beyond the Party's finances hence the need to transfer some of the cost to the Aspirants.

It said the new Executives had made great strides toward the organisation of the Congress but were encountering financial challenges and it had "no option but to spread the burden".

The Source recalled that one of the decisions the Party took, after losing Election 2008, was to amend its Constitution to expand the Elector al College that elected the Flag-Bearer. When GNA contacted the camps of some of the Aspirants about the intended additional fees they said they have heard about it but had not b een informed formally and added that they would resist it.
