KNUST and NBSSI to train SMEs in Kumasi

Kumasi, June 28, GNA - The School of Business of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the National Board for Small-Scale Industries (NBSSI), would provide training for Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises (SMEs) in the Kumasi Metropolis. Mr John Frimpong, Acting Dean of the School, said the KNUST and the NBSSI were putting together a working document to begin the training programme.

He said it would help promote best practices to fuel the growth of those businesses. Mr Frimpong was speaking at the inauguration of a GH¢2.5 million ultra-modern building for the School in Kumasi on Monday. The building would house the departments of accounting and finance, marketing and corporate strategy, information and decision science, servi ce management and managerial science. It was jointly financed by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and the School.

Mr Frimpong said the beneficiary SMEs would be taught management and

organizational development, strategic management, business information technology, records keeping, marketing, packaging and economics. He spoke of the need to integrate business courses into all programm es run by the University to expose students to entrepreneurial skills. This, he said, would go a long way to build their capacity, enhance their expertise in management and equip them with strong entrepreneurial orientation to support the industrial and socio-economic development. Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, said th ey were grateful to the GETFund for its continuous support towards the improvement of the University's infrastructure. He said he was confident that the new complex would enable the schoo l to attain global recognition as a centre of excellence in Africa. 28 June 10
