Minister defends introduction of Christian Religious Studies

Agomenya (E/R), June 15, GNA - The Minister of Education, says the introduction of Christian Religious Studies (CRS) in Senior High Schools (SHS) would help students to understand the role the Bible play as a source of guidance, direction and counselling.

Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo said the CRS was based on a framework of teaching about personal and social values that are essential for individual and societal growth and development.

The Minister made this known in a speech read on his behalf at the launching of a book at Agomenya in the Eastern Region, entitled: "Christian Religious Studies for Senior High School" authored by Rev Jacob Teye Sackitey, a minister of the Christ Apostolic Church International. He said many parents in Ghana believe that the absence of religious and moral studies negatively impact on the moral upbringing of the youth. Mr Tettey-Enyo therefore urged students and teachers in SHS to take full advantage of the publication and get their own copies to help them in the study and teaching of the subject.

The 61- year old author said the purpose for writing the book was to complement the efforts of the Ghana Education Service for including CRS in the school curriculum.

Rev Teye Sackitey said Christians supported the government's decision to introduce the CRS to enable the country to have God fearing leaders, who would build a sustainable and peaceful nation. The 150 page- book would be sold at GHc15. 15 June 10
