World Vision UK is not offering any scholarship to Ghanaians - Director

Accra, May 14, GNA - The management of World Vision Ghana (WVG) on Friday said World Vision United Kingdom, was not offering scholarships to Ghanaians, nor has World Vision's offices anywhere in the world authorised any individuals or organisations to conduct any such scheme on its behalf= ..

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr Basilio Okello, Nationa= l Director of WVG, said its attention had been drawn to poster advertisemen= ts put up by a syndicate purporting to represent World Vision United Kingdo= m. "This syndicate claims to be offering scholarship schemes in communities in three districts in Ashanti Region and has put up posters t= o that effect. They are Ejisu-Juaben, Sekyere East, Agona and Afram Plains in the Eastern Region," it said. The statement said "the advertisement with the yahoo e-mail addres= s of one Millicent Adasi, is asking students to buy scholarship forms at GH= ¢10 or GH¢15 or pay the amount into a bank account and contact one Mr Donal= d Mills for further information".

It added that World Vision therefore sought to dissociate itself fr= om the scholarship scam and warn the public against paying monies towards an= y such schemes with the hope of obtaining a World Vision scholarship. The statement confirmed that one Isaac Ankama, 22, had been arrest= ed by the Police at Effiduase in Sekyere East District in the Ashanti Region=

and was assisting the police in their investigations into the fake scholarship scheme, while some of his accomplices were on the run and wer= e being sought. It urged the public to verify the authenticity of all promotions us= ing the name of WVG or elsewhere, and asked people who had paid monies into a= ny account in connection with this scheme should report the matter to the nearest police station.
