Atebubu DCE's residence razed by fire

Atebubu (BAR), May 5, GNA - Mr. Sanja Nanja, Atebubu-Amantin District Chief Executive spent a night in a make-shift structure made for guests after losing his official six-bedroom residence to a fierce fire on May Day, Saturday, May 1.

The fire which lasted for over two hours reduced every item in the house to ashes but family members escaped unhurt. Mr. Nanja narrated the incidence to Mr. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, at Atebubu on Wednesday at the start of his week's tour of six selected districts in Brong Ahafo Region.

He said he received a phone call at about 4:00 p.m at a public function on May Day that his residence was on fire but could not believe the message. Mr Nanja said personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service rushed to the scene but could not put out the fire because of some combustible materials like the wooden ceiling, curtains and furniture. He said the incidence was being investigated to ascertain the cause but suspected arson because the residence was the isolated building in the bush located some 500 metres from the fringes of town and there were no security personnel.

Mr. Afriyie-Ankrah sympathised with Mr. Nanja and urged him to submit proposal to the Ministry for the construction of a new residence. However, he was happy there was no casualty. An itinerary drawn for Mr. Afriyie-Ankrah includes visit to Sene, Pru, Yeji, Busunya, Nkoranza, Wenchi, Nsawkaw and Atebubu, to inspect on-going development projects.
