TUC Veterans Association re-organises, updates records

Accra, May 1, GNA - The National Secretariat of TUC Veterans Association, Ghana (TUCVAG), on Saturday said it was re-organising and updating its records.

It had therefore invited all former Trade Union officials or functionaries to submit their contact data to TUCVAG. The contact data of the veterans, which should include current postal addresses and telephone numbers must be submitted to: The National Secretary TUC Veterans Association, Ghana.

Telephone Numbers: 0220205659; Mobile: 0271188216/0277736651. A release issued in Accra and signed by Mr. John Alex Hammah, National Secretary of TUCVAG, named 21 unions from which former executives could register with TUCVAG.

They are all former members of TUC Board, Secretary Generals and Deputies of Ghana Trades Union Congress (GTUC), Chairmen and Deputies of National Unions, General Secretaries of National Unions, Heads of Departments and Deputies of GTUC, Rectors and Principals of Ghana Labour College, Regional Secretaries and Deputies of GTUC. Others are: Regional Secretaries and Deputies of National Unions, Industrial Relations Officers of GTUC, Industrial Relations Officers of National Unions, Chairmen and Deputies of District Councils of Labour as well their Secretaries and Deputies, Heads and Deputies of Women's Wing of GTUC. The release said all former officials, functionaries and Deputies of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Civil and Local Government Workers Union, Ghana Federation of Labour, Judicial Service Workers Union and Nurses and Midwifes Association of Ghana.

A 15-member anti-crime Taskforce inaugurated at Oda Nkwanta

Akim Oda (E/R), May 1, GNA - A 15-member anti-crime Taskforce at Oda Nkwanta in the Birim Central Municipality has been inaugurated with a call on social deviants to mend their ways and contribute towards peace and prosperity in their localities. They should also use their exuberant and youthful energies to help turn their negative practices around to enhance their personal well being.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) V.A. Kwarteng, Oda District Police Commander, who made the call, said it was paramount for communities to form taskforce committees to support the security agencies in their localities combat crime. He asked the committee members to endeavour to work assiduously and responsibly, so as to earn the people's respect adding, the good works of the committee could help transform the society into a peaceful and prosperous one.

The District Commander advised them not to take the law into their own hands, but to hand over all suspects to the police for interrogation and prosecution.

He called on the people to support the taskforce to deliver on their mandate.

Nana Ofosuhene Apenteng II, Akwamuhene of Oda Nkwanta, chairman of the taskforce, explained that members of the committee were hard working, disciplined and would execute their functions without fear or favour.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) shortly after the inauguration, Nana Dwamena Akenteng II, Chief of Oda Nkwanta, and also the acting Krontihene of the Akim Kotoku Traditional Area, was happy that the town now has a committee tasked to ensure that children at Oda Nkwanta would change from their negative practices for the better and to grow into responsible adults. The Acting Krontihene was of the view that the taskforce was to support the Police in the area to clamp down on criminal activities in order for the people to go about their day to day activities.
