Attorney General to visit US to deepen bilateral co-operation

Accra, May 1, GNA - The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu will on Saturday, May 3, begin an official visit to the United States of America that will take her to Washington and New York. While in Washington, the Attorney General will meet her US counterpart Mr. Eric Holder.

The main agenda for the meeting will be on bilateral co-operation in the field of rule of law.

The US will use the platform to demonstrate commitment to Africa, particularly the promotion of the rule of law and combating of transnational crime, especially in areas such as terrorism and terrorist financing, piracy, narcotics and corruption. In New York, the Attorney General will be addressing a gathering of business people and the media on the investment climate in Ghana and the rule of law.

Mrs Iddrisu will also meet the Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs/The Legal Counsel of the United Nations, Patricia O'Brien and the Director of the UNDP Democratic Governance Group, Ms. Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi.

She will hold discussions with the Clinical Faculty of the Fordham Law School on their curriculum and possible introduction of reforms in legal education in Ghana.

Mrs Iddrisu will visit the US Congress and address the American Society of International Law. 1 May 10
