NADMO to dialogue with judiciary on demolishing

Accra, April 30, GNA - The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) would soon dialogue with the judiciary on the demolishing of illegal structures.

This will help resolve issues on the numerous court injunctions placed on the demolition of structures built on water ways nationwide. Speaking at the pre-launch of a Flood-free Campaign by the NADMO on Friday, Mr. Kofi Porturphy, the National Coordinator, said the dialogue would discuss the need for judges to assist in the national exercise to rid the towns and cities of unauthorised structu res. He urged the citizenry to report persons who built on waterways to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) for speedy action to be taken.

Mr Porturphy said this was necessary because the people would suffer the brunt of floods when such buildings were left to stand. He noted that the NADMO would soon embark on an exercise to distil chocked drains and also open up water channels. Mr Porturphy said the organisation would soon launch its anti floods campaign in Accra and urged all MMDAs to draw up programmes on how to prevent floods in their electoral areas. 30 April 10
