Better Ghana agenda would not be a nine-day wonder - President Mills

Accra, April 30, GNA - President John Evans Atta Mills on Friday said government would in no way misplace the trust Ghanaians had reposed in it and pointed out that the Better Ghana Agenda would not be a nine-day wonder. Government, he said, would ensure every action taken was geared towards delivering on its promises to improve on the living standards of Ghanaians. "We need to put away petty and insignificant differences for national cohesion to move the nation forward," he added.

He therefore enlisted the support of all Ghanaians for the success of government's agenda to improve living standards and ensure better lives and prosperity for all and sundry.

President Mills made the call during an unannounced visit to the on-going first Ghana Policy Fair 2010, in Accra. He was taken round the stands by Mr John Tia Akologu, Minister of Information.

President Mills expressed strong faith in the Ghanaian's ability to combine resources coupled with God's blessings to succeed. He said the nation needed to focus on its development, but added that government welcomed constructive criticisms since "he who clears the path may not know that the back is crooked."

"We need to work together and be focused as a nation," President Mills said.

In what seemed like a definition of the Better Ghana Agenda, President Mills said government was using the mandate offered to build a better life where Ghanaians would be proud to put life and soul together as good citizens.

It also meant security for life and prosperity, as well as ensuring peaceful nation to which the citizenry would always return to, and beat their chest out as proud Ghanaians.

President Mills emphasised that there were a lot of things that united Ghanaians than what divided them, and called for unity to build the nation to become a shining example to the rest of the world. "We are going to show the outside world that with unity, determination and God's blessing, we shall succeed," President Mills said. President Mills interacted with staff at the stands visited; Ghana Publishing Corporation, Narcotics Control Board, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Biometric Passport Division and Ghana Tourist Board.

Ghana Policy Fair is an exhibition of policies, projects and activities of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs); Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

It is under the theme; "Engaging the Citizenry for a Better Ghana". More than 100 MDAs, including the Ghana News Agency are exhibiting their policies, programmes and activities and explaining to visitors what their organisations are doing to facilitate the "Better Ghana Agenda". It created a platform for government to get closer to the people and involve them on governance issues where the public could make suggestions. 30 April 10
