T'Poly produces skilled manpower for textiles industry

Takoradi, April 28, (credit Baidoo S/355)-GNA - The Textiles Department of the Takoradi Polytechnic has since the past 14 years trained over 1,000 people many of whom are currently serving in various capacities in major textile industries.

Other products of the institute have also set up their own textiles industries, thereby offering employment to a sizable number of youth, Mr Richard Acquaye, Head of the Department told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday.

He said the Department's activities had impacted positively on the general performance of the textile industry in the country and announced that it has affiliated and registered with professional bodies such as the American Association of Textile Colorists and Chemists and the Textile Institute of the United Kingdom.

These institutions, Mr Acquaye said, supply periodicals and information to the Department to enhance its performance. He said the Department had evolved a programme to establish a resource centre and a library for research work for students and people in the industry. Mr Acquaye mentioned inadequate lecture halls and lack adequate workshops as some of the challenges the Department had been grappling with and called for support from interested organisations. 28 April 10
