Three students arrested in connection with UCC clashes

Cape Coast, April 27, GNA - Three students have been arrested in connection with violent clashes at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) campus last Sunday night, which left three students injured.

The suspects are Daniel Turkson, level 300 student of Valco Hall, who allegedly acted as informant for students of Casely Hayford (Casford) Hall, Michael Selorm and Edem Adzraku, both level 100 students of Casford. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) William Acolatse, Cape Coast Metropolitan Police Commander, confirmed the story to GNA.

He said that the clashes between some students of Casford Hall and Atlantic Hall were as a result of a long-standing rivalry between the two=

halls.

DSP Acolatse said that the injured students, Joel Sackey, level 300 student of Kwame Nkrumah Hall, Michael Ahiabu, level 100 student of Atlan= tic Hall and Malik Jibar, level 100 student of Casford, on admission at the U= CC Hospital, were responding to treatment. Metropolitan Police Commander said that the Central Regional Crimina= l Investigation Department was investigating the case and warned that the Police would not tolerate any act of violence. It said the march turned violent when some Casely Hayford Hall students allegedly invaded the Atlantic Hall with offensive weapons like stones, bottles and machetes and attacked UCC security personnel as well as students.

The statement said UCC property was destroyed and some students injured. It said the Executive Committee had in the interim set up a committee to investigate the disturbances and submit a report to the UCC Academic Board within two weeks.
