UEW urged to advertise its needs and aspirations

Winneba (C/R), April 24, GNA - The University of Education, Winneba, has been urged to advertise its needs and aspirations in order to attract philanthropists and its alumni to help develop institution. Dr Richard Ofori, the Director of the Nation Centre for Research into Basic Education (NCRIBE) at the University, made the appeal when he presented a research finding on "Researching the Philanthropic Potential of the UEW" at Winneba.

The study was undertaken on behalf of the Office for Institutional Advancement (OIA) and funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York. According to Dr Ofori, higher education all over the world faced the dilemma of reconciling its increasing importance with its rising cost, which seemed to be outpacing the ability of government to meet University budgets. "It is, therefore, imperative to look for alternative sources of funding for the University's development agenda, adding that gifts from University alumni, friends, corporations or foundation become an attractive alternative," he said.

According to the research, the alumni expect major developments such as reviews of course content, duration of internship and upgrading of programmes and regular interaction with University authorities. 24 April 10
