NAFAC 2010 scheduled for Tamale in November

Accra, April 6, GNA - Mr. Alexander Asum-Ahensah, Minister of Chieftaincy and Culture, would on Wednesday, April 7, inaugurate the National and Northern Regional Planning Committees of NAFAC 2010 in Tamale. The 10-day National Arts and Culture Festival (NAFAC) is scheduled for Tamale in November 2010.

A statement issued in Accra on Tuesday and signed by Mr. Nelson Akatey, Public Relations Officer at the Ministry, said the national festival would be preceded by district and regional festivals throughout the country between July and September.

This year's theme is: "NAFAC - Promoting Unity, Technology and Wealth Creation for a Better Ghana: The Role of the Youth in Nation Building". NAFAC is a biennial event organised to celebrate the arts and culture of Ghana. Its objective is to use culture and the arts as a platform to promote national unity and integration while showcasing arts and culture of the various regions as an investment drive. Since its inception in 1967, NAFAC has contributed significantly to the development of all spheres of national life.

Major activities for the celebration include durbar of traditional rulers, exhibitions, performances and colloquium. The statement said owing to circumstances beyond the Ministry's control, NAFAC 2009 had to be postponed. 6 April 10
