MIHA Education Fund supports 70 students

Winneba, April 5, GNA- The MIHA Education Trust Fund, established in September 2009, to support brilliant but needy students from the Effutu Constituency in the Central Region has so far sponsored 70 students. Alhaji Issah Barry Saidu, MIHA Chairman, who disclosed this to Winneba citizens based in Italy said a total amount of GHC12,082.00 has so far been disbursed.

He said five students have been sponsored to tertiary institutions out of which one was at the University of Ghana Medical School.

He said 25 students were at the second cycle level with 20 trainee artisans undergoing apprenticeship in dress making and hair dressing. Alhaji Saidu said the MIHA Education Fund was established by Mr Mike Hammah, Minister of Transport and Member of Parliament for Effutu Constituency to support brilliant students from poor and deprived homes who otherwise would not be able to pursue further education. Mr Hammah called on Effutu citizens in the Diaspora to unit and contribute toward the social, economic and physical development of Winneba. He said though government was doing its best in the construction and rehabilitation of roads, provision of potable drinking water, and the building of a new hospital for the Effutu Constituency, the strain on the central and municipal purse will not be sufficient to carry out all developmental projects.

Mr Hammah appealed to the citizens to disengage and disassociate themselves from chieftaincy disputes and work together as true brothers and sisters for the upliftment of Effutu and its people. Reverend Dan Markin urged the people to lead lives that were beneficial to themselves and their families.
