Engineers and consultants to be held responsible

Odumase-Krobo (E/R), March 24, GNA - The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has said in future building engineers and consultants who give approval for payment would be held responsible when these buildings get damaged under the slightest rainstorm.

He said he was not happy about the situation where many new public buildings got destroyed in during rainstorms.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said this when he donated relief items to the Lower Manya-Krobo District Assembly for distribution to some communities in the area that were affected by a rainstorm last month. The items included 15 packets of roofing sheets, 15 bags of rice, 15 bags of maize, five bales of second hand clothing, 150 pieces of wood, mattresses and boxes of roofing nails.

He called on building inspectors in the districts to ensure strict compliance with the district assembly's building regulations and urged the assemblies to organize periodic forums for the people to explain to them the need to comply with building regulations.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo directed that the Lower Manya District Assembly should stop people building on the waterways along the Kpong/Akosombo Highway. Earlier, the regional minister had earlier presented relief items to the Mount Mary College of Education that was also affected by a rainstorm and participated in the rehabilitation of the kitchen and sick bay of the college.
