Chief murdered in Tamale by angry youth

Tamale, March 23, GNA - The Chief of Garezegu, suburb of the Tamale Metropolis, Yakubu Andani, was murdered on Monday at about 1900 hours by a group of angry youth.

He was said to be returning from Nyakpagu when he was attacked and kill= ed and his motorbike placed on top of him.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Angwubutoge Awuni, Northern Regional Police Commander in a brief to the media in Tamale on Tuesday, said the chief was enskinned on March 14 by the Sagnarigu chief, despite protestations from the youths of Garezegu that they did not like him. He said the youth laid ambush on the way and murdered the chief in col= d blood, while four houses in the village had also been burnt.

ACP Awuni indicated that the police was gathering intelligence information to arrest the perpetrators of the act. He said some police personnel had been deployed to the area to mainta= in order while efforts were being made to arrest the offenders.
