Asamoah wins Fair Play Award

Luanda, Angola, Jan. 31, GNA - Sensational midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah of the Black Stars picked up the Samsung Fair Play Award, one of the top-most awards, in the final match of the 27th African Cup of Nations Tournament in Angola.

Asamoah, who was one of the greatest revelations in the competition, won the awards at the end of three matches after exhibiting excellent performance in the competition.

The Player, who plays for Italian side Udinese in the Serie A League, won the Fair play Award after the first game against Cote d'Ivoire and Orange Player of the Match in the game against Angola at the quarter-finals stage. Asamoah, however, failed to break into the competition's best set of eleven players but has been listed as substitute on the bench.

He was tagged as the future of Ghana football during the competition for his excellent display.

His colleague Asamoah Gyan, who broke into the best Eleven Players selected by the Technical Committee of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), won the Player of the Match Award after the game against Egypt. Also among the list of award winners were Egyptian Ahmed Hassan, who won the Overall Best Player of the Tournament, with his colleague Ahmed Fathi winning the Overall Samsung Fair Play Award.

Mohamed Nagy Gedo of Egypt picked up the top scorer award with five goals in the competition and doubled as the Discovery of the Tournament. Egyptian goalie Essam El Hadary was adjudged the best goalie of the tournament.
