Essien flies into Angola

- despite Togo terror attack
LUANDA, Jan 10 - Michael Essien joined up with his team mates at the African Nations Cup on Sunday, one day before the black stars were due to play Togo in their opening Group B match, officials said.

Essien had been given permission to recuperate from a hamstring injury at his English Premier League club Chelsea and missed Ghana's pre-tournament training camp in South Africa and their arrival in Cabinda last week.

The Ghana Football Association said Essien had been training at Chelsea for the last four days.

His participation in Ghana's first game of the tournament against Togo on Monday had been in doubt but Togo flew out of Cabinda on Sunday and Ghana are not scheduled to play again until Friday when they meet Ivory Coast.

Togo's team left the tournament after the gun attack on their bus on Friday, which killed their assistant coach and media officer.
