Urvan bus runs into students on procession

Mampong (Ash), Nov. 13, GNA - Twenty-six students of the Saint Monica' cluster of schools in Asante-Mampong sustained various degrees of injury when an Urvan mini-bus ran into them whilst on procession along the principal street of the town.

Except for two who were admitted for observation at the District Hospital, the rest were treated and discharged. Police Chief Superintendent Edward Oduro-Kwarteng, the Divisional Commander, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the incident occurred at=

about 0730 hours on Friday.

The driver of the bus, Kwesi Agyei, aged 28, has been placed in poli= ce custody. He said the students drawn from the Saint Monica's College of Education, Midwifery, Senior and Junior High Schools were in a procession= to mark this year's Saint Monica's Day, an event marked annually. According to Chief Superintendent Oduro-Kwarteng police officers, guarding the students signaled Agyei to slow down, when they saw the vehi= cle speeding towards them but he ignored them. The driver at the time was taking a number of children to school. Dr. Emmanuel Ahiable, Medical Superintendent at the hospital, descri= bed their injuries as 'minor' and said the two on admission could be discharg= ed Saturday. 14 Nov.09
