Parliamentary Press Corps takes training to regions

Ho, Nov. 3, GNA - The Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) has moved to fill the vacuum created by lack of training opportunities for journalists and oth= er media practitioners in the regions.

The PPC recognized that journalists in the regions cover activities of Members of Parliament in their constituencies as well as Committees of Parliament whenever their assignments took them to the regions. Mr Andrew Edwin Arthur, Dean of the PPC, said this at a two- day worksho= p for some journalists from the Volta and Eastern regions in Accra as part of the initiative.

He said there seemed to be a lack of sponsorship for refresher training for journalists in general to the greater disadvantage of those outside Accra= .. Mr Arthur said the PPC leadership decided to share whatever opportunitie= s were available to them with the regions. He said the PPC would facilitate the supply of computers to each regiona= l branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA). Mr Arthur urged journalists who are not members of the GJA to apply for membership in order to be able to benefit from training opportunities wor= ked out by the PPC in collaboration with the GJA.

Participants commended the initiative of the PPC which to them was a novelty and out of the way and a practical demonstration of esprit de cor= ps. They expressed the hope that similar groupings of Journalists in specialized areas would emulate the PPC especially as Journalists in the regions are all-purpose practitioners. 03 Nov 09
