"Sight for Africa" screens 1,500 people in Accra

Accra, Oct. 28, GNA - Sight For Africa, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) into optical screening, on Wednesday offered free screening for 1,500 people at Darkuman, a suburb of Accra. Mr Collins Antwi, Coordinator of the NGO, said the exercise held three times a year, was aimed at creating awareness on the need to protect the eye.

He noted that some of the diseases that affected the eye were preventable and stressed the need to take proper care of the eye. Mr Antwi said Sight for Africa was set up in 2003 with the sole aim of providing eye care services to the poor and vulnerable and the need to avoid preventable blindness.

He said the NGO also offered free education on the eye through partnership with other organizations and governments. Mr Antwi said the organization would extend its outreach to other parts of the country to ensure a healthy citizenry. "It would also provide services in communities, schools and institutions," he added.
